Want to clear your old gear quick, with minimal agg? Flog it to a tight-arse...

Let’s be clear: we want to buy your old fishing gear, so we can sell it on at a profit.

It’s kind of our raison d’etre (that’s French, that is - meaning reason for being).

We also want to minimise the amount of grief involved in the process.

Which is why we’re completely transparent: so there are no misunderstandings with prospective sellers.

We don’t waste your time, so you don’t waste ours.

So, for the avoidance of all doubt, be aware…

1/ We only buy job lots.

If we’re going to jump in the van and drive to Upper WhoopWhoop to collect your clobber (at no charge), the trip has to be worth our while.

2/ We will pay you a whole lot less than you might (over time) get from selling ‘direct’ - probably around 50% less, in fact, than you’d achieve IF you sold on ebay. Except… that’s not completely true.

Because, after listing fees, final val fees, payment fees and postage costs, you’d actually end up with 30%-odd less than you expected.

(Oh, and BTW: posting any rod over 10’ will cost you anywhere between £30 and £40.)

Ah, you say: I can clear my old kit on Gumtree or FB Marketplace and it costs nowt. And quite right, too; actually, I’d highly recommend it.

If, that is, you don’t value your own time. And, ideally, you’re conducting an anthropological study into, say, the propensity of tyre-kicking, barely literate ****-nuggets to window-shop the web, firing off random and irrelevant PM queries into the small hours with - in reality - neither the cash nor the intention to actually buy anything.

All of which, perhaps, puts the way we operate into perspective: despite, prima facie (err… on the face of it… sorry; my inner ‘literary ponce’ has a way of revealing itself, when I’m on a roll) offering +/-50p in the pound (vs ebay et al), our markup is actually rather modest.

Factor in the cost of the unit we’re in the process of buying, and the six months to a year it can take to turn stock over, and you’d be forgiven for feeling sorry for us.

Come to think of it… we’re practically running a charity here.

Whatever, it’s how we roll. Leaving sellers with a simple binary choice: sell to us. Or don’t.

Like the man/woman/he/she/they/them/it said: Some will, some won’t, so what?
