For the "old school" angler, prebaiting is key; and it isn’t about fancy gadgets - drones, sonar and the like; rather, it’s about a bit of graft and a lot of common sense.

The Strategy: Train the Fish (Not Your Bank Manager)

If you’re an all-rounder looking to bag a few fish without spending a fortune, you don't need to overcomplicate things. The goal is simple: train the fish to visit your spots and get them used to your bait long before a hook ever hits the water.

• The Mix: I’m currently favouring a thrifty but effective blend—wheat, pigeon rearer, a few tigers, and a handful of boilies.

• The Schedule: Get out there every couple of nights. Starting now.

• The Stealth: If you’re fishing public stretches, bait multiple "known" areas. It’s the only way to ensure you aren’t gazumped on the night of the 15th.

Observation over Guesswork
