Vintage Roddy 34 Fly Fishing Reel – Japanese Made – Hardy St Aidan Style

A vintage Roddy 34 fly fishing reel, made in Japan by Olympic/Seiko Reel Company, believed to date from the 1970s or 1980s.

The Roddy 34 closely follows the design of the classic Hardy St Aidan, making it an interesting and practical vintage reel for anglers who appreciate traditional fly tackle without necessarily wanting to pay collector prices for the Hardy equivalent.

Finished in an attractive gunmetal colour, this versatile size reel is suited to heavier trout, sea trout, salmon and light Spey applications. It has previously been used successfully with 7wt and 8wt single-handed fly rods and a 7wt switch rod. It should make a useful match for many 7–9wt fly fishing applications, including Trout Spey and 6–7wt switch rod set-ups.
